Today’s reading is found in  Zechariah 9:9 (NLT).

Rejoice, O people of Zion!

Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem!

Look, your king is coming to you.

    He is righteous and victorious,

yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—

    riding on a donkey’s colt.

While most of the prophecies we have read have been about the birth of a Messiah or the ancestral lineage, these words prophecy about the triumphal entry of Jesus read about in Matthew 21:5. It was then that He presented Himself as the Messiah to Jerusalem and the people of Israel. In contrast to what a normal triumphal entry would have looked like with any other king, this one was different – the procession of Jesus must have seemed pretty humble, and this showed that Jesus was a different kind of king.

Jesus provided such an example of how we should live and love. Humility was and is such an important part of how Jesus led others. Can we exemplify humility as we celebrate Christmas?

Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:

What is one way you can exemplify humility this Christmas season?
