Today’s reading is found in Luke 2:11-12 (NLT)

The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.

A baby changes everything.

I wonder if Mary sat there holding baby Jesus and thought about all of the events that had occurred with a certain awe and disbelief. Can you imagine?

Mary was just a young woman from a country village. She wasn’t a builder, a leader, a soldier, or a prophet. She was a woman who believed the stories she had heard all her life about a God who kept His promises and rescued His people. She knew that He called ordinary people into His service and accomplished great things through them that they could never have done in their own strength.

Yet, she uttered the question, “How can this be?” (Luke 1:34) Mary’s question didn’t reveal doubt in God’s faithfulness, but instead her amazement that He would call her to be a participant in His mission.

Knowing she could be ostracized she still said yes to this mission.

Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:

How might Mary’s faith encourage you today? Is there a yes you need to say?
