Today’s reading is found in Luke 1:67-70 (NLT)
Then his father, Zechariah, was filled with the Holy Spirit and gave this prophecy:
“Praise the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has visited and redeemed his people.
He has sent us a mighty Savior
from the royal line of his servant David,
just as he promised
through his holy prophets long ago.
The promised Light of the World was soon to be arriving. Since the beginning of time God has been making a distinction between light and darkness. Spiritually speaking, we have all had moments of darkness in our lives – times we’ve tried to hide from the light.
Sometimes light exposes something we prefer to keep hidden. Exposure is ultimately mercy. The burden of carrying our sin is too much for us to bear on our own. Our souls were made to move toward the light, toward the freedom from our sin.
This Christmas season, be a light to others around you. Show them the light of Christ and the hope He brings to all who know and love him.
Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:
Is there something you are trying to keep hidden in the darkness?
