Today’s reading is found in Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

At Christmas time I can’t help but think of the story about Zechariah and Elizabeth found in the Gospel of Luke. They were righteous followers of God. Zechariah was a priest and Elizabeth was from a family of priests. They loved God, kept His commands and devoted their lives to Him. However, they had never had children, and they desired to have children. I would think they might have even worried over their situation a few times.

At some point I’m sure that they came to terms with the fact that they may never have children. Then, God blesses them with a child. Not just any child, but the one who would pave the way for the coming Messiah.

When our prayers carry over year after year, we may lose hope that God is listening, but the Bible tells us that He is listening. God always hears our prayers.

Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:

Have you been praying the same prayer for a long time? What helps you in those times of weariness?
